However, we made an effort to categorize the top things to do in Cairo in order to condense the best of what Cairo has to offer in terms of sightseeing.

1- Giza Pyramids Day Trip

It should go without saying that this. This should be your top priority whether you're in Cairo for a day or a week. 2- The Egyptian Museum

The Royal Mummy Gallery is truly something remarkable to see and one of the Activities to do in Cairo, even though the National Museum of Egyptian Culture is worth visiting in and of itself (it houses over 50,000 artifacts from all periods of Egyptian civilization, from prehistoric times through the pharaonic era up to the present).

3- Saqqara

4- Old Cairo Things to see

Cairo as a city is more than 1,000 years old, and the pedestrian street of El Moez is the best place to witness the remains of what we call Old Cairo or Historic Cairo (which is, by the way, a UNESCO World Heritage site).

El Moez Street is 1 km long and lined with everything from businesses to Cairo's renowned tentmakers' bazaar, to historic homes, mosques, and palaces. El Moez Street, according to the UN, is home to "the biggest concentration of the Islamic world's medieval architectural assets."

5- Khan El Khalili 

El Moez Street cannot be visited without first exploring the nearby Khan el Khalili, Cairo's most well-known souk or bazaar.

The ideal location to find wonderful gifts or souvenirs for loved ones back home is Khan el Khalili. From fine gold and silver to tacky plastic items, this maze of shops and sellers sells it all. Expect crowds, but at night when all the lights and lanterns are set up, it's lovely.

6- The Citadel of Salah El Din

Want to know activities to do in Cairo? About 700 years ago, Egypt's monarchs lived and conducted government in the Cairo Citadel, a nearly 1000-year-old medieval fortification. Many mosques and institutions, notably the well-known Mohamed Ali mosque, are housed there, and it continues to dominate Cairo's eastern skyline today.

It's an excellent location to get panoramic views of Cairo as well because of its elevation; on a clear day, you can see all the way across the city and the Nile to the Pyramids of Giza.

7- Sultan Hassan & Al Rifai Mosques. 

Two of Egypt's most stunning mosques, Sultan Hassan and its neighbor Al Rifai, are located adjacent to the Cairo Citadel. Although there is only a road separating the two mosques, they were really constructed 500 years apart despite their similar size.

The Sultan Hassan complex, which was built in 1359 AD and is regarded as one of the most significant architectural examples in the Islamic world, once housed four different madrassas in addition to a mosque. It was referred to as a "miracle of construction" by Islamic historians.

8- Felucca Nile Cruise

You'll find yourself crossing the Nile numerous times a day to get from one side of Cairo to the other.
